Back in 2008, it was reported that the (then) 21 year old had co-wrote the song “If I Were A Boy,” which was later recorded by Beyonce.
The most astonishing part of the story was that BC Jean claimed she didn’t even know that her song was recorded by Beyonce until it hit the news. Fox News also reported that Matthew Knowles at the time was aggressively pursued the publishing rights to the song so that he could put Beyonce’s name on the writing credits.Anyway, it looks as though she has come out on top. BC Jean reportedly received a $250,000 settlement (which was kept on the hush) and a deal with Clive Davis, who pursued her shortly after wards.
Now, she is pushing her first song “I’ll Survive You,” that’s getting rave reviews. You can listen to the single over at The New York Post
Edited to say: It is noteworthy to mention that although BC Jean claimed the song was stolen from her, her writing partner started shopping it to bigger artists and sold it without her knowledge.
